Dr. Sherine Ahmed El Baradei is an Associate Professor at the Civil Engineering Program at the German University in Cairo. Dr. El Baradei received her PhD in hydraulics and irrigation engineering from Cairo University in 2005, and her MSc degree in environmental engineering from the American University in Cairo in 2000. From 2005-2018 she has been working as an assistant professor in the construction engineering department at the American University in Cairo.
Dr. El Baradei’s research interests are in hydraulics and hydraulic structures, irrigation, water quality and water quality modeling, water and wastewater treatment, fluid dynamics, environmental engineering, and water issues related to space and space applications. She published a book and about 30 research papers in international refereed journals and conferences and won the best conference paper prize twice. Dr. El Baradei taught over 15 different courses in general engineering and in the specialized area of water, environmental and sanitary engineering. This is on both levels; namely, the undergraduate and the graduate levels. She supervised many undergraduates; as well as a graduate thesis in her area of specialization. She chaired the international American ISEC-11 conference in 2021. As consulting work, El Baradei worked as irrigation network and wastewater network designer.
She is currently a PI of a research fund to design solar canals. She is a member of the Analog Astronaut Community, as well as the Royal Astronomy Community of Canada. El Baradei is a member of the COSIMENA platform at the DAAD in Egypt and an active member of the Cairo Climatic Talks, which is under the umbrella of both the German Embassy and the Egyptian Ministry of Environmental Affairs. She is in excellent command of English, German, and Arabic.
