Biography
Emmanuel Sunkari is a Geological Engineer with specialized expertise in Water Resources Management and Environmental Geochemistry and Health. He serves as a Lecturer at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Ghana and holds the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medical Geology at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Previously, Emmanuel was a Research Fellow of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). Emmanuel's research aims to enhance our understanding of the speciation mechanisms and human health risks associated with potentially toxic elements in environmental media, including soil, water, and plants, due to both geogenic and anthropogenic activities. His work also focuses on the geospatial variability, sources, and evolution of groundwater, as well as the health risks associated with the consumption of contaminated water, utilizing spatial analytical techniques such as GIS and Remote Sensing, alongside multivariate statistical analysis.
Emmanuel's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Science from the University for Development Studies, Ghana, in 2013. He then served as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the same university from 2013 to 2014. Subsequently, Emmanuel pursued both his Masters and PhD studies in Geological Engineering with a specialization in Geochemistry, supported by a scholarship from TÜBİTAK. He completed his Master of Science degree with distinction at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Turkey, in 2017, and his PhD program with distinction at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Turkey, in 2023.
Emmanuel has authored over forty peer-reviewed scientific papers on water quality and health, predominantly in Elsevier and Springer Nature journals. He has also presented numerous scientific works at conferences in these areas. Emmanuel has cultivated strong scientific collaborations with researchers from various countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Morocco, Ethiopia, South Africa, Turkey, India, Romania, Portugal, Sweden, and the USA. His academic excellence has been recognized by the AD Scientific Index, which ranks him as the 3rd Best Scientist at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana.
