Biography
Dr. Sagynbek Orunbaev is a Professor of Environmental and Earth Sciences at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA). He also serves as a president of the Kyrgyz Association on the Safety of Dams (KyrCOLD) and a member of the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD). As the KyrCOLD President, he currently oversees projects on Cross-Border River Basins. He previously served on projects such as the Importance of water resources and Renewable Sources of Energy in Mountainous Region, Multiparametric monitoring of Kurpsai Hydro Power Plant Dam, Groundwater Level Analysis for Flooding Risk, Ground-based and Remote Sensing Monitoring of Water Resources and Infrastructures.
Prof. Orunbaev is an expert in the field of natural disaster risk management, climate change, and water resources management received from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), Tokyo, Japan. He published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and managed several projects in the field of climate sciences and has been funded by several International Development Agencies for the investigation of Climate change and Water resources management. He has been a Principal Investigator on numerous research projects through the years in various universities in Germany, Russia, and the United States.
