Biography

Linda Martina Maier is an atmospheric and climate science researcher with a background in space sciences, environmental system sciences, and sustainability communication. She is currently working at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), contributing to projects on Earth observation for water management.

Her main research focuses on atmospheric rivers, large-scale weather systems that strongly influence global water availability and extreme events. Using satellite observations and reanalysis data, she has studied their dynamics and impacts across different regions. She has also applied remote sensing methods to assess flooding and drought risks in South America and worked in an interdisciplinary team to design innovative concepts for future space exploration.

Linda has completed Master’s degrees in Space Science and Earth from Space as well as Environmental System Sciences/Climate Change and Environmental Technologies, and gained international academic experience through various programs in Brazil and Australia and Norway. Passionate about science communication, she works to make complex Earth system processes more accessible and to highlight the role of space technologies in advancing sustainable water and climate solutions.
