When the mining operations began about 40 years ago, they removed a lot of the wetlands. Now they (the companies) are trying to reclaim and bring back the wetlands so that they serve potentially as future infiltration systems. Data to understand what types of wetlands are suitable for our environment and how to develop criteria to monitor the success of the reclamation of wetlands is needed. And in general, we also need data for the inventory of wetlands as they are an important infiltration system to manage runoff within our river systems.
