IGRAC is looking for a Senior Groundwater Specialist to integrate in its team based in Delft, The Netherlands.
Background
IGRAC is a research and data centre dedicated to enhancing groundwater knowledge and wisdom, providing data and information to support decision-making on groundwater worldwide and contribute to a sustainable planet. IGRAC is based in Delft, The Netherlands, works under the auspices of UNESCO and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and is supported by the Government of the Netherlands.
Responsibilities
The groundwater specialist will contribute to the production and dissemination of groundwater information worldwide in line with IGRAC’s mission, vision and strategic objectives (IGRAC strategy 2024-2027).
The specialist will be responsible for and/or contribute to:
- The implementation of projects at national, regional level and global level, aiming at:
- implementing groundwater assessments, particularly in transboundary aquifers,
- supporting the implementation and strengthening of groundwater monitoring programmes, at national and transboundary levels,
- supporting groundwater management and governance, in particular groundwater data management and production of information for decision-making, and
- analysing national, regional and global datasets.
- The preparation of grant proposals for external funding.
- The preparation of project reports and other IGRAC annual and planning reports.
- The valorisation and dissemination of groundwater data and information through scientific publications, reports, policy-briefs, stories, videos, media articles, etc.
- The implementation and/or support of capacity-development activities, including the supervision of interns and MSc students.
- The development of tools, guidelines and other products aiming to transfer scientific information to support decision-making.
- The representation of IGRAC in international networks as well as technical and scientific events.
The groundwater specialist will work under the supervision of IGRAC director.
Education and skills
- PhD or MSc degree in hydrogeology or related environmental science.
- Good command of written and spoken English is required.
- Good command of additional UN language(s) and/or Portuguese is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong analytical and management skills.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and diverse environment.
- Ability to deal with missions abroad.
Work Experience
At least 5 to 10 years of recent and relevant experience in groundwater assessment and management at international level.
Experience in the Mekong region and/or Central Asia is considered an asset.
Proven experience in groundwater project management, including grant applications and funding acquisition.
Experience in working with national and/or regional institutions and organisations.
