The International Symposium on Underwater Pipelines System (ISOS) 2023 is hosted by
the IAHR/IWA Underwater Pipeline Systems Joint Committee under the auspices of the
International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) and
the International Water Association (IWA), the Federal Council of Sanitation Services
Entities (COFES) and Argentine Water and Sanitation (AySA).
ISOS 2023 aims to bring together the greatest experts in environmental and coastal
engineering, biology, oceanography, water management, hydraulics, sanitation, and
water resources areas to exchange knowledge and discuss the current technology,
management design, and issues related to the wastewater discharge into coastal
waters, rivers, and estuaries.
The Joint Committee gathers two International Associations, the IWA, which focuses
more on wastewater treatment and water quality issues (dispersion modeling and
bacterial decay, nutrients transformation, algae growth, sedimentation, and
flocculation) along with IAHR´s experience, which is more oriented towards the fluids
mechanics and hydraulics (jets and plums, stratified flows, coastal flows, transport and
mixing processes, physical and numerical modeling, wave forcing, piping cleaning and
sewage collectors internal hydraulics).
International experts acknowledge the Treatment and Disposal Integrated Systems
potential through wastewater underwater pipelines which take into account the
receiving water body response and its natural assimilation capacity.
This symposium aims to address the Underwater Pipelines Systems within the scope of
their capacity, which comprises wastewater treatment, options of reuse, and the
environmental protection needs to be required, including water quality monitoring and
surveillance systems in place in the receiving water body in dumping areas.
The Symposium will be held in Spanish and English with simultaneous translation.
