The status and outlook of the Space4Water Project was presented at the 58th session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) 2021 of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. The report is critical for outlining the motivation behind, contribution, and success of the Space4Water Project, and the Space4Water Portal as its main pillar.

The Space4Water Project aims to foster scientific exchange via conferences, reach and inform users worldwide, and build a community of practice through the Space4Water portal. The project makes the link between water – intrinsic to many of the SDGs, and space applications – which can be an effective tool in monitoring water resources and disaster management.

The report informs on the important initiatives of the project which link the water and space sectors, from publishing articles on the use of space technology to solve water-related issues, to interviewing professionals and providing a bridge between stakeholders in the sector. Interaction with the portal continues to rise rapidly and new initiatives in order to further its potential are constantly being discussed, the specifics of which are outlined in the report.
