Urgent Action Needed to save Wetlands

Abstract |
Southern Africa is facing wetland loss and degradation at a rapidly increasing rate, a development that calls for urgent action as this loss impacts on human wellbeing. Wetlands are among the world’s most economically valuable ecosystems, but are disappearing three times faster than forests. This is the key finding of the first-ever global wetlands Outlook published by the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention, a global treaty to protect wetlands and promote their wise use.
