Biography
Nokubonga Mazibuko is an Anthropologist from Folweni, a Durban-south township. She holds a Master’s Degree in Anthropology, and Honours degree in Gender Studies (both obtained Cum Laude) and Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences with majors in Media and Cultural Studies and Political Sciences from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Additionally, a certificate in Afrikan Feminist and Gender Studies (obtained with distinction) from the University of South Africa’s Thabo Mbheki Leadership Institute (TMALI). She is currently reading towards a PhD focusing on Anthropology and Gender Studies.
Mazibuko is a seasoned academic with more than six years lecturing experience at three South African universities and a leader who is passionate about human centred work. This is demonstrated in her current position as a Commissioner for the Commission on Khoi-San Matters. She is also a member of the AU ACALAN’s isiZulu Commission. Her community work includes board membership at the Thobeka Khubisa Foundation, a Durban based NPO focusing on the rights of the girl child as well as Eyethu Pop-Up Library which is an initiative aimed at curbing illiteracy among the youth in Kimberly, Northern Cape. She draws inspiration from ordinary township citizens whose story she aims to share with the world.
