Biography
Viola Orina's experience at the Kenya Space Agency directly aligns with the thematic focus of the upcoming conference on "Space Technology for Water Management." Having been involved in projects centered around the practical application of space technology, particularly in monitoring water extents using satellite imagery and remote sensing techniques, Viola brings an understanding of the regional dynamics, challenges, and opportunities pertaining to water resources. Her immersion in these initiatives equips her to actively contribute to discussions on sustainable solutions, leveraging insights into how space technology can effectively address specific issues related to biodiversity and livelihoods in the region.
Prior to the Kenya Space Agency, Viola gained experience at Mathira Water Company and Sanitation, where she focused on utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Non-Revenue Water (NRW) management. This experience holds direct relevance to the conference's theme, as GIS plays a role in mapping and analyzing water distribution networks, identifying leakages, and optimizing infrastructure in the context of NRW management.
