Biography
Betty is a graduate student and a Fulbright scholar at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, pursuing a master's in Natural Resource Science with a specialization in GIS. She also holds a hold Bachelor of Science in Geospatial Information Science and Remote Sensing from Dedan Kimathi University. With a background in geospatial analysis and remote sensing, Betty has worked with the University of Nebraska, the National Drought Mitigation Center, and the Kenya Red Cross to support disaster response and preparedness by analyzing community risks, impacts, and vulnerabilities. She is also passionate about community empowerment, and she has been conducting community training including working with high school students in training them on GIS mapping. Her current research analyzes abrupt shifts from drought to floods and their impacts in Kenya. Beyond her academic and professional endeavors, Betty enjoys traveling, photography, and playing guitar in her free time.
