Biography
From 1982 to 1985, Richard Lawford served as the Chief of Program Evaluation for Canada's inland waters. Following this role, he transitioned to become the Chief of a Hydrometeorological Research Division at ECCC/Saskatoon, a position he held from 1986 to 1995. During this tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing research and understanding in the field.
In 1996, Lawford embarked on a journey of diverse roles, marking the beginning of a prolific career trajectory. Over the next twenty-four years, he navigated through various positions, showcasing his versatility and expertise. Notably, he served as the Director of the WCRP/GEWEX International Project Office in the Washington DC and Silver Spring MD areas, contributing significantly to international collaborations in climate research, particularly within NOAA and NASA.
Since 2005, Lawford has been actively engaged in supporting the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) in promoting the utilization of satellites in water management. His dedication extends to addressing Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) pertaining to water resources and advocating for the integration of water, energy, and food systems.
